Wanamaker Tributary

The Wanamaker Tributary Reconstruction Project is located near the northern end of the Wanamaker Basin. The Wanamaker Basin is a highly urbanized residential and commercial area in southwest Topeka. The Basin has required stormwater detention facilities for new construction for several years. Even with detention, the increase overtime of large amounts of impervious surfaces has stressed streams in the basin.

The Reconstruction project will install riffle structures in the Wanamaker Tributary to redirect water from the north and east sides of the stream towards its center. The stream bank will then be revegetated with willows, cottonwoods, shrubs and native grasses to provide additional stabilization to the stream bank. Construction is slated to begin in Winter 2006.
